He’s Back …
Welcome back, Kent Wallace! It’s been a minute since one of your favorite POND Trade authors has contributed an installment in his bimonthly “Best Practices” series. I think his new article in the November / December 2024 issue will .than make up for his absence. He takes us on a tour of his latest project in the Napa Valley wine region of California. The swimming pool-to-koi-pond conversion underneath the dining room floor at a Japanese inspired bed and breakfast required unique filtration and aeration. Wallace explains in great detail, which I know you will enjoy.
But let’s back it up for a second. Have you checked out the oasis on our November / December 2024 cover? It seems like everyone is jumping on the bandwagon this issue with profiles of specialty ponds. Larry Carnes’ client wanted a spa atmosphere that even a mermaid would come ashore for, and — well, just read “Swim Pond with Spa Benefits.” Who needs to pay for a spa day when you can bask in the comfort of your own backyard mini-resort?
There’s a whole lot more to take in as you peruse the following pages. One feature I particularly enjoyed is Connie Modrak’s personal story about overcoming adversity and stereotypes in the industry to succeed as a woman-owned waterscaping business. Ellen Kloubec returns with another wonderful Language of Koi feature on Chagoi. These koi are known for their friendliness and social behavior. We’re also pleased to have our lake-management expert Patrick Simmsgeiger back with a very informative, cautionary tale about regular pond care.
Finally, don’t forget to enter this year’s Water Artisans of the Year contest! We look forward to seeing your best work. All entries must be received via our website by November 30.
Happy PONDering!
