Icing on the Cake
The finishing touches — that’s the theme of our cover story this issue. As a gardener and pond owner, that really resonates with me. I’ve chatted over the years with author John Magyar and personally witnessed the impeccable attention to detail he gives his pond builds that help them maintain their beauty as they mature. He has some really interesting methods I think you will be interested in reading about. Subtle plantings, rocks and other small touches can make all the difference in the world as you complete the final 10% of the job.
A few things of note. First off, did you enjoy reading our “Beyond the Pond” feature, where pond builders share details of their other interesting hobbies? We received a lot of good feedback — but we have run out of people! If you would like to write an article about your interesting hobby outside the water-feature world (or if you know someone who might be good for this feature), please reach out to me at llgelles@pondtrademag.com. You never know whom you might inspire by sharing your story!
I’d also like to mention the ninth annual Water Artisans of the Year contest starts up Sept. 1. Click here for more details on the contest. Entries are due by Nov. 30. We will release more information and announce the new crop of judges serving on the next Supreme Stream Court in the coming weeks.
Finally, we’ve got a LOT more in this issue that you won’t want to miss. Remember when Aquascape held a collaborative pond build for the one and only Shaquille O’Neal during the COVID-19 pandemic? Ed Beaulieu and his team recently got to return to Shaq’s Atlanta home to work on a second pond project. I also found Ashley Darocha’s article on overwintering tropical plants and Leslie Triplett’s “Pond Inspections” both riveting and timely.
Happy PONDering!
