Pond Construction | Pebble Mosaic Skeleton Feature
Hand-bent rebar, once tack welded, was coated in lath and fiber-reinforced mortar before being dressed up in pebbles and a driftwood crown. This was truly a one-of-a-kind project.
The mix of choice for pebbling was two coffee cups of Type S to one cup of hydraulic cement. The grip and set time of this mix was a necessity for many of the rocks involved. We came to agreement on the basic color layout and pebble patterns. Many indigenous and imported pebbles and stones were cut, scored, sorted, arranged and stuck.
Our plumbing design allows the ability to run the mouth and each of the eyes independently of each other.
Placing plant pockets in the concrete shoulders and the driftwood crown help soften up the piece. The arborvitaes obscure the sidewalk and road, which one could easily forget is just behind the skull.
