Valent Professional Products announced that Tradewind™ Aquatic Herbicide has been registered by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for selective management of aquatic plants, including fluridone-resistant hydrilla.
A systemic herbicide that provides long-lasting control of both submersed and floating aquatic plants, Tradewind brings a much-needed new class of chemistry to the aquatics market. With an excellent toxicological profile, Tradewind allows aquatic plant managers to selectively control exotic, invasive plants such as fluridone-resistant hydrilla and Eurasian watermilfoil with minimal impact on many desirable native plant species such as spatterdock, maidencane and cattails. As a result, Tradewind helps open previously clogged waterbodies for wildlife, public and recreational use while at the same time conserving desirable aquatic plants.
Because few new aquatic herbicides have been introduced in recent years, some aquatic plants—including fluridone-resistant hydrilla—can no longer be controlled with existing chemistries.
“Hydrilla is the No. 1 plant of concern for aquatic plant managers. Hydrilla displays extremely rapid growth and causes a number of problems. The registration of Tradewind closely follows that of Clipper™ Aquatic Herbicide, another aquatic herbicide from Valent Professional Products that offers fast and selective control of tough plants and requires minimal personal protective equipment (PPE) for applicators. Plus, Clipper dissipates quickly from the water column and does not accumulate in sediment.
