Published on April 18, 2011

The Haile Learning Takes Flight mural & wildlife habitat project is complete & we would like to invite you to our ribbon cutting celebration on Monday April 25th at 9am at Haile Middle School, 9501 SR 64 East, Bradenton, FL 34212.

The project was organized by Brenda Smoak, a local artist who is one of five artist chosen nationally by the VSA to be one of this year’s teaching fellows, along with Holly Clouse, STAR program teacher at Haile and Lisa & Dave Burns of Backyard Getaway.

90+ students in the school’s STAR & ESE classes participated in the project along side local artists Brenda Smoak & Barbara Gerdeman to create a 40´ x 10´ mural on the outside of the media center building complete with hand made clay leaves. The students also created a pondless water feature & wildlife habitat with guidance from Dave & Lisa Burns of Backyard Getaway.

The project was funded by donations from local business & individuals through social media fundraising. Other donations include a complete pondless waterfall kit from Atlantic Water Gardens, Rock for the waterfall from Ruck Bros. Brick & native plants from Florida Friendly plants.
