EasyPro Installs a 245 Foot Wide Waterfall

Published on September 5, 2014

EasyPro Pond Products, in conjunction with Triangle Construction, was pleased to have been a major partner in the design and installation of a 245-foot wide waterfall at the Bucktown Shopping Center Development in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Bucktown is a mixed use development anchored by a new Cabela’s store, Target and numerous other retailers. EasyPro owner Dave Ouwinga was brought in during the concept phase by the designers at Integrated Architecture to properly size the pumps and design the plumbing system.

EasyPro installed and plumbed four 10 hp pumps in this application providing a total of 5,200 gallons per minute over the lip of the waterfall. The plumbing system was laid out with hundreds of feet of 6-inch and 8-inch pvc pipe. EasyPro also installed high flow 8-inch intake screens in the feature.

A crucial factor in the final appearance of the waterfall was the concrete edge installed by Burgess Concrete. “One of my major concerns on this project” says Ouwinga,” was the ability of the concrete company to create a 245-foot wide spillway that was not more than 1/8″ in variation of height. Burgess Concrete did an outstanding job. When we turned the first pump on, we had 1/8″ of water over the entire spillway! They did an awesome job creating that lip.”

“Todd Hanninen from Triangle was great to work with on this project. We appreciate the opportunity to match our expertise in water features with top notch companies like Triangle, Integrated Architecture, Burgess Concrete and Ottman Construction” continues Ouwinga “to give customers everything they asked for in the design. The owner of the development commented, “better than my expectations! ” when he first saw it running. This is exactly what we look to do in our projects!

Once the final buildings are completed there is proposed to be a restaurant and a coffee shop on both sides of the upper pond with ample outdoor seating all along the 245-foot span.
