Redesigned Aspirating Mixer Promises Easier Installation and Better Energy Efficiency
The redesigned Enterprise Aspirating Mixer by Air-O-Lator Corporation provides a more energy and cost efficient option for aerating and mixing. The retooled unit yields increased airflow, pumpage rate, and thrust, plus it is easier to install. The new advantages are important because, in water treatment, an aspirating mixer must introduce and mix air into the water at a high volume in order to metabolize present aerobic microorganisms.
The Enterprise Aspirating Mixer uses a high volume, axial flow, propeller pump design that operates within a close tolerance throat. The water that is propelled from the throat and forced through a specially designed venturi nozzle more than doubles the velocity of the fluid pumped. This causes a low-pressure area to occur at the air intake. With tremendous force, the liquid and air converge at the venturi nozzle and air delivery tube, discharging a homogenous mix of rapidly moving aerated liquid.
“We are really excited about the test results,” Air-O-Lator President, Roy Watkins, explained. “The key is the venturi nozzle. With the new design we have seen an 11% increase in the performance, (pumping volume, velocity, and cubic feet of air) as well as a 2% decrease in energy consumption. The recent changes have made the Enterprise extremely easy to install and maintain.”
The floating or floor mounted horizontal aspirating mixer is available in either the 1, 2, & 3 horsepower, 230 volt, 1 phase or 1.5, 2 & 3 horsepower, 230 volt or 460 volt, 3 phase. There are no long shafts to keep in balance or outboard bearings to replace. With only the float and the 4˝ diameter air intake tube above the water, operating the Enterprise during freezing conditions is not an issue, eliminating the need for costly heating elements. When applications require a higher level of oxygenation, a blower can be added to the unit. The Franklin electric submersible motor is eco-friendly and features a removable water block motor lead assembly.
“The Enterprise can be utilized for aeration and directional flow mixing of all types of ponds, lakes and water impoundments,” Watkins said. “Because of that, it’s a product that serves a number of different industries: irrigation, wastewater treatment, storm water management, fish farming, ranching, and agriculture. Even parks and recreation departments have the need for an aspirating mixer to keep a large body of water clean and healthy.”
